Hidden Women
We are delighted to be working once again with mental health charity “See Me” to offer a programme of short online writing sessions and live zoom workshops, culminating in the creation a series of five minute monologues performed by professional actors.
These monologues will be humorous and thought provoking. The title of the series will be “Hidden Women”, and it will aim to take us beyond what people see, hear, or take at face value of woman in their 50's.
Premiere with Beacon Arts
The monologues will be filmed and shown initially on online platforms, with a premiere in partnership with Beacon Arts on their social media channels, on the 26th of November at 7pm.

The Post Show Q&A
Please join In Motion, See Me , Beacon Arts and the creatives involved for a post show Q & A to discuss the writing process, the monologues and how theatre can get stories out there that often aren't told. The Writers
The writers, all women from across Scotland, are: Ros Borland, Diane Irvine, Shiona Johnston, Marla Baird, Avril McColgan, Susan Falconer, Elspeth Japp, Jackie Reid, Angela Cunningham and Susan Milligan.
The Voice of Our Town
Online writing workshop
Working with Future Paisley, we are delighted to be delivering a series of short online writing sessions and live zoom workshops designed to create a five minute monologue around the theme of “The Voice of Our Town”. Each monologues will take us beyond what people see, hear, or take at face value of the place you live in.
We are working with 10 writers who live, have lived, or have a connection with Paisley, and in particular the area of Ferguslie Park, through a workshop programme hosted by playwright/producer and creative director of In Motion Theatre Lisa Nicoll. Lisa will guide the writers through a process to turn their stories into a theatrical monologue which will be performed by professional actors and shown as part of In Motion’s Digital Virtual Theatre Programme in December 2020.
This is part of a wider project which also features a new play, ‘Other Side of The River’, written by Lisa working with local residents, along with other opportunities for community participation such as our current song writing and dance workshops.
The writing workshops will consist of:

An initial live online workshop session and welcome.

Three initial short recorded practical writing sessions.

A live online session with group participants.

Three more short recorded practical writing sessions.

A second live online session with group participants.

One to one session with participant and Lisa.
-
One to one session with participant, Lisa and Actor.

Monologues will then be directed and recorded by the actors.

Monologues will be launched on digital platforms.
The workshop places are now full and the programme has started. The digital monologues will be launched on the 10th of December.

Beyond the Headlines
Part of our Virtual Programme, “Beyond the Headlines” joins writers from Scottish Community Drama Association Clubs from across Scotland, and high-profile professional actors who are ex SCDA members, in the premier of a series of new monologues.

For the past two months, Playwright and Creative Director, Lisa Nicoll has worked with ten writers from SCDA clubs all over Scotland using a process of live and recorded workshops, and one to one development sessions. The writers have each created a 5 minute fictional story/monologue that has been inspired by a media headline, but takes us on a journey ‘Beyond The Headlines’.
The Actors
This process culminates in a digital online performance of these pieces on Thursday 20th August at 7pm by professional actors: Alan Cumming, Robin Laing (Band of Brothers HBO, River City BBC, Waterloo Road BBC), Caroline Deyga (Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, National Theatre Scotland, Local Hero and Lyceum Theatre), Mark Armstrong (Our Girl BBC, Frankenstein, National Theatre) and Lisa Nicoll herself. These actors are all ex-members of Carnoustie Theatre Club, and were participants in SCDA Festivals and activities over the years.
Lisa cut her teeth through SCDA festivals with Carnoustie Theatre Club for nearly 15 years. Her Aunty, Betty Gibson, was an active member of the SCDA for nearly 50 years, especially in the area of the youth festivals, and encouraged Lisa (like Betty did with so many others including Alan, Robin, Caroline and Mark) in her field.
This opportunity was created for SCDA members, with the aim of bringing the professional and amateur world together to support each other during the current climate, during which theatre performances are not possible.

Clubs involved include: Kirkton Players, Ury Players, Aberdour Players, Spotlights Community Youth Theatre, Thornhill Players, Greenock Players, Dunoon Players, Linlithgow Players and Fintry Amateur Dramatic Society.

Being part of Carnoustie Theatre Club and SCDA Festivals was a huge part of my development as an actress, writer and producer and provided me with an amazing grounding for the career I embarked on. An invaluable experience that made me ready for life and able to mix with people of all ages and background.To be able to work and develop short plays with writers from SCDA clubs makes me feel like I am coming home

The Voice Behind the Picture
In Motion Theatre in association with SEE ME
The culmination of a project between In Motion and the See Me mental health charity conducted during the COVID-19 lockdown. Fourteen writers worked with playwright, and creative director of In Motion Theatre Company, Lisa Nicoll, to create stories/monologues around the theme "The Voice Behind The Picture". Over a series of live and recorded workshops and one to one development, conducted over 5 weeks, each writer created a 5 minute story that moves us beyond what people see, hear or take at face value. Each actor then recorded one of the monologues in their own home under lockdown conditions.

Write Lines
Write Lines is currently on hold due to Covid 19 restrictions.
Write Lines is a series of writing workshops held in association with Glasgow Libraries for Book week Scotland. It's an opportunity for writers to attend workshops with producer and playwright Lisa Nicoll culminating in the production of a new 10 minute play or the beginning of a larger piece of work.
The workshops include exercises to inspire and develop material, characters & dialogue, one to one feedback about the work and also a chance to have their work read by professional actors, in front of a live audience in professional theatre.
Craft
As a creative working in theatre you need to keep on top of your craft, ready for your next piece of work. Working with other professionals in the development of new writing projects our "Craft” programme helps actors, writers, directors and producers to hone their skills.
Our practical workshops encourage professional development, at the same time keeping you connected with other creatives, helping you build relationships within the industry, and fostering a sense of community.
